”David and Goliath! A meek young man takes on a warrior giant and wins.” This would be the headline in the paper if it were to happen in today’s society. In some ways we do see this occurring. In the grown-up world, we see small business owners taking on big government and fighting for their voice to be heard. In a child’s world we see little Timmy on the playground telling big Ottis, the bully who is to pushing him to try drugs, to get lost and leave him alone.
Sadly, in today’s world this is a reality for many children. And many children aren’t as brave as little Timmy, having the ability to say “NO” to drugs. That’s why it is so important to talk with your children about drugs and the dangers associated with them. You, as parents or guardians are responsible for providing your children with the weapons to fight back against drugs. Knowledge is the best weapon!! Like David, who used his cleverness, it sometimes takes a strong mind to bring down the giant.
If you feel that you are not knowledgeable enough to talk candidly to your children about drugs, don’t worry! There are others who are willing to help you. The D.A.R.E program has been around for over two decades and has helped to educate the youth of america about the dangers of drug use.
